PaperSummary of Baker's Cart outside Gwalia Bakery
A family of bakers standing outside their shop in Gwalia in Wales. This photograph was taken around the turn of the 20th century.
Full description
A two wheeled Baker's Cart is standing outside the bakery in Gwalia. This is an enclosed cart allowing the driver and the bread to stay dry during inclement weather. It would have shelves from top to bottom for the bread and a door at the back for access. The pony harnesed to the Bread Cart wears a simple set of trade harness with a wide pad and a full collar. Tradesmen nearly always had plain leather harness as it was easy to clean and repair. The only trades that would use patent harness were hatters, tailors and department stores with their delivery vans.
